5 Benefits of Massage for Veterans

Have you served our country in the armed forces or know someone who has? Do you need some bodywork to help alleviate everyday stressors or to simply relax the mind and body? Ruby Sun’s massage therapists can help! There are numerous benefits of massage and bodywork for everyone, but these five points are especially relevant to veterans:

  1. Anxiety—According to a study by Military Medicine magazine, massage helped alleviate anxiety and irritation in the military members that participated. Stress and worry were lessened, too.

  2. Pain Levels—Pain and discomfort—this one might be obvious, but the reduction of pain leads to better quality of life for veterans and their loved ones. Partners of military members reported noticeable changes in their service members.

  3. PTSD—Research from the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) suggests massage therapy can help veterans with PTSD. Headaches, anxiety, and traumatic flashbacks are all stress-inducing parts of PTSD, and massage has been shown to lessen the effects of these.

  4. Depression—According to the AMTA website, “A 2010 meta-analysis considering the treatment effects of massage therapy for depression found a significant association between massage and the alleviated symptoms of depression.” The brain-boosting effects of human touch cannot be underestimated, especially in light of the isolation people have felt in recent months.

  5. Insomnia—Chronic loss of sleep is a common symptom of anxiety and PTSD, but massage can help you get the rest your body and mind need. National Institutes of Health suggests that massage therapy can reduce fatigue and research gathered by the American Massage Therapy Association states that massage has been shown to improve sleep in people of all ages.

Massage therapy has been found to provide enormous relief for distressing physical and psychological symptoms. Here at Ruby Sun, we offer a 15% discount on massage to all active duty and retired service members. We thank you and honor you for your service to our country, and we encourage you to take good care of yourself with self-care practices like massage. You deserve it.
